This type of silencer consists of a series of parallel baffles placed inside the smoke flue (exhaust or chimney) creating large contact areas that efficiently absorb medium and high frequency noises.

Each baffle is made up of a layer of high density mineral wool, 50 to 350 mm thick (60 to 100 kg/m3), an anti-defibration fibreglass covering and a mechanical protection made of perforated steel plates.
